Heartmetrics Experts

With CardioID’s patented technology, we provide Heartmetrics Expertise for the benefit of the individual, in any situation. New research and development, looking to understand human biosignals, guides our design of innovative products that take into account human capabilities, limitations, and characteristics.

R&D&I

Applied Research in Biosignals, our DNA

We have over 10 years of R&D experience and continue to grow our knowledge by maintaining relationships with Europe’s top universities.

CardioID’s R&D unit aims to provide the company with continuously updated tools and knowledge related to pattern recognition, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

We maintain a presence in the scientific and technological community through collaborative projects, by welcoming interns (professional internships, and master’s and doctoral studies), and also by offering services to universities and research institutes.

projects

CardioLeather

This project is cofinanced by Portugal 2020, under the COMPETE 2020 and Lisboa 2020 programs, and a collaboration between academic and industry entities, where CardioID took the role of project leader.

The CardioLeather consortium aims to produce electrically‐conductive leather with an embedded system for acquiring and processing physiological signals, to be applied to steering wheels and other vehicle interior surfaces, allowing non‐intrusive monitoring of the users’ identity, health, and well‐being.

i-DREAMS

A project financed by the Horizon 2020 Program, aiming to create a platform to define, develop, test, and validate the concept of a Safety Tolerance Zone to prevent drivers from exceeding driving limits, mitigating risks in real time and after the trip.

The acronym “i-DREAMS” stands for “Intelligent Driver Assessment and Monitoring System and the Road Environment”. The i-DREAMS consortium is composed of 13 partners, researchers and companies, from 8 European countries.

CardioID is the technology provider, responsible for all the devices that monitor the driver’s psychophysiological state and correlates it with external factors at play, aiming to identify the safety tolerance zone of each driver.

Generation.Mobi

Funded by Portugal 2020 Program, Generation.Mobi was a research, development, and validation project for a new mobility management system. It was based on the concept of a social network of interactive bicycles, interoperable with the city’s ecosystem.

The project was developed in multiple innovation lines, in particular related to heart signal acquisition applied to bicycle components, in high noise scenarios. The project addressed a set of societal challenges within the framework of the European Horizon 2020 strategy.

Barraqueiro Transportes

Implementation of CardioWheel and Drowsiness Monitoring.

The project ran for two years, with CardioWheel monitoring system installed in 10 buses.

After traveling more than two million kilometers, the project made it possible to confirm the identity of each driver, providing Barraqueiro with information of any driver change, whenever this took place.

In addition, the project made possible to identify Hands-On/Hands-Off Wheel, allowing us to know if drivers were following best practices. It also allowed the integration with other systems embedded into vehicles: telematics, communication systems, and anti-collision systems.

Automotive - Automatic Multimodal Drowsiness Detection for Smart Vehicles

Project supported by the Foundation for Science and Technology of Portugal (FCT).

The objective of this project is to develop software capable of being integrated in vehicles with sensors on the steering wheel to detect driver fatigue and drowsiness. To do this, a driving simulator was built to allow for the collection of realistic data while driving, without the risks of actually driving while sleepy.

The project is a collaboration between CardioID, INESC-TEC, and Universidade Lusófona.
